Ohio Campus Compact Members Selected for 2008 Carnegie Community Engagement Classificiation

Congratulations to 7 Ohio institutions earning recognition from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching

The following institutions received distinction for both "Curricular Engagement" and "Outreach and Partnership"

Defiance College*
Hocking College*
The Ohio State University*
Otterbein College*
University of Akron- Main Campus*
Xavier University*

The following Ohio institution received distinction for "Outreach and Partnership"

Owens Community College

These institutions join the following Ohio Campus Compact member institutions earning their classification in the previous year.

Bowling Green State University (Curricular Engagement)
Kent State University- Main Campus (Outreach and Partnership)
University of Cincinnati-Main Campus (Outreach and Partnership)

This elective classification is meant to recognize the nature of an institutions' community engagement commitments.

"We hope that by acknowledging the commitment and accomplishment of these engaged institutions, the Foundation will encourage other colleges and universities to move in this direction. Doing so brings benefits to the community and to the institution," said Carnegie President Anthony S. Bryk.

Overall, 119 colleges and universities were selected for this 2008 classification out of 147 institutional applicants.
